This incredibly soft, pure-wool yarn has been part of our collection since the very beginning of the Borgo de’ Pazzi – Florence adventure.

This thick, voluminous yarn is the one that inspired the collection of untreated and undyed yarns.

In fact, it’s worth noting that the colors of this yarn result from the various sources of wool, ranging from the whitest to the darkest, known as “moretta.”

Borgo de’ Pazzi – Florence offers a wide range of yarns made from natural fibers and in natural colors.

The yarns in the natural collection are: Naturalia, CedroNew (colors 35 through 39), Grosso (colors 1, 2, 3, 5), and Lama

LANE FEATURES AND NATURAL COLORS

The wool in this collection is untreated: it has been washed only and has not undergone any chemical treatment during the processes that transform the fiber into the finished product.

As a result, the fiber retains its natural characteristics and is much more voluminous and soft than the products typically found on the market.

If the washing instructions are followed correctly, natural fibers provide excellent dimensional stability.

Natural colors come from a careful selection of fleece shades; therefore, the resulting yarns reflect the various nuances found in nature.

You can tell if a yarn is truly untreated by the characteristic smell of lanolin still present on the fiber.

The color variations in the 100% wool yarns (Naturalia, Cedro NewGrosso) range from white to dark brown (which is the color of the “black sheep”), while Lama is made with colors found in nature

The main characteristics of wool fiber are its good workability and excellent thermal insulation (which is exceptional in some types of wool, such as merino or llama).

Wool is suitable for all types of clothing, including outerwear (coats), thanks to its natural ability to absorb moisture without making you feel it on your skin. Even when wet, wool keeps our bodies warm.

Another important advantage is that wool is hypoallergenic and antibacterial. Its ability to neutralize odors is due to lanolin. This substance, which is secreted by the skin of sheep, is not completely removed precisely because of its protective and antibacterial properties.

HEALING PROPERTIES OF WOOL FIBER

Wool is, therefore, a living material with exceptional properties that have been known for as long as 7,000 years.

The benefits of wool have been known since the Stone Age in China and Ancient Egypt, and the Greeks also greatly appreciated woolen clothing.

The healing properties of wool have been known for centuries.

It not only helps prevent these conditions but also relieves many rheumatic ailments such as arthritis and osteoarthritis. It can be effectively used to treat shoulder pain, neck stiffness, back pain, gout, sciatica, circulatory problems, nerve inflammation, headaches, toothaches, and earaches.

Modern medical specialists and practitioners of natural medicine confirm its healing properties. In many hospitals, premature infants in incubators are no longer wrapped in synthetic blankets, but in blankets made of pure virgin wool.

In essence, the healing and soothing properties of wool have been rediscovered.

ORIGIN AND PROCESSING

Most of the wool we use in our yarns comes from Europe and South America; the alpaca wool is from Peru.

All manufacturing is done in Italy.

All types of wool we use in our yarns are MULESING-FREE

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CARING FOR A NATURAL WOOL GARMENT

The garment must be hand-washed in cold water and must not be wrung out under any circumstances, as natural wool is particularly sensitive to mechanical agitation and water temperature. In addition, the garment should be laid flat to dry, allowing it to retain its original volume and thus ensuring a longer lifespan. Never use bleach.
