Het waren in feite de Romeinen die het voor het eerst gebruikten, niet alleen voor kleding maar ook voor in huis, waarbij ze steeds geavanceerdere verwerkingstechnieken ontwikkelden.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Het gebruik van stof werd vervolgens uitgebreid tijdens de Middeleeuwen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Door de industrialisatie in de 19e eeuw stond vlas ook centraal in de textielontwikkeling.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Belangrijkste toepassingen van vlasvezels en classificatie<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Linnen wordt ingedeeld volgens de fijnheid van de vezels: fijn linnen, geschikt voor de productie van fijne kantdoeken; halflinnen dat voor gewone doeken wordt geweven; grof linnen voor gewone doeken.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>  Linnen stoffen worden gebruikt voor huishoudlinnen, zoals tafelkleden, lakens, handdoeken en zomerkleding voor zowel mannen als vrouwen.  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Naast textiel wordt vlas ook gebruikt om papier te maken en om touw en bindgaren van te maken.  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Linnen trekt niet krom bij gebruik, is duurzaam en hypoallergeen;
